YG Newsletter – November 12, 2020

Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen,

Thank you to all the families who came last week to pick up supplies and teacher-created materials. Most of the supplies were picked up, but there are still quite a few remaining. Families who have not picked up supplies, please contact the office (541-790-4606) to make arrangements to pick up at another time.

We have just a few announcements this week. See below. Have a good evening and enjoy the rest of the week.

YG Family Zoom Meeting – Tuesday, November 17

We will be holding another YG Family Zoom Meeting next Tuesday, from 5:30 to 6:30 via Zoom.
At this meeting we will focus on helping your child create a positive learning environment in the home. Some topics include:
●Learning environment setup and sharing
●Creating focus and preventing distractions
●Transitions
●Supervision without distraction
●Optionally tuning into green time
Any parent is welcome to participate. A separate email will be sent Monday evening with the zoom link.

Site Council & PTO Meetings Next Thursday

The Site Council will be meeting next Thursday, Nov. 19th, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. With so many families, staff included, having to do so much during COVID-19, we all need to find ways to work more efficiently. At next week’s meeting, Ashley Sensei, who is also the co-president of the YG PTO, will facilitate a discussion and seek feedback on how the PTO and Site Council can work together in meeting our school’s goals. All YG families are welcome to participate. A zoom link will be sent in a separate email.

The PTO will be meeting next Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30. This will be the first meeting fun by the new PTO board. A zoom link, along with the agenda, will be sent in a separate email.

Distance Learning Feedback

Dear 4J families,

How is distance learning going for your student? Now that schools and families have gotten some experience with comprehensive distance learning this fall, we’d like to hear your feedback on the distance learning and support services your student is receiving.

Students will continue learning from home at least through winter break. Our district is planning toward a return to school buildings in a hybrid model alternating cohorts in online and onsite learning at a point beginning after winter break, if public health conditions allow. Lane County currently does not meet the public health metrics required by the state to bring students back to school buildings.

Please let us know how we can improve your student’s virtual learning experience as we continue down this unprecedented road. This survey may take about 15 minutes to complete; you may skip any section and move on if you wish.

Thank you. Your feedback will help us continue to improve in the future.

4J Virtual OBOB Book Clubs and Activities

Are you stuck on what to read next? Do you just need to hang out with your peers and talk? A book club is the place for you! Our fall and winter books clubs are going to focus on OBOB 2020 book (All OBOB books are available through the Eugene Public Library in ebooks, audiobook, and print format. Click here for more information on how to obtain a free library card available for ALL 4J students.). Though OBOB is not hosting state and regional competitions this year, our district can have its own competition. Let’s read and learn together! You don’t have to have a team to join us or even participate in OBOB to take part.

COVID Rent Relief Assistance

The Lane County COVID Rent Relief program is for Lane County renters affected by COVID 19 through loss of income or due to a compromised health status, elevated risk or vul-nerability to COVID infection and that a loss of housing would cause a health jeopardy. For information on the program or if you would qualify, click the linked flyer.

Holiday Food Boxes

With the holidays and school breaks coming up, we wanted to share with you the plan for student meals through Nutrition Services.

Thanksgiving: Nutrition Services will provide a four-day meal box with the Wednesday meal bag, available with the normal pickup or delivery systems. The box will have a serving size for four days with: Turkey and gravy (scratch cooked, ready to heat), red potatoes (instant), cranberry sauce (can), rolls (fresh) and other canned or prepared items, and milk. We are working on vegetarian options and gluten free as well.

Winter Break: two meal boxes will be available for pickup, or by request through delivery

Friday, Dec 18 a meal box with frozen/shelf stable items for up to 9 days will be provided per student.
Monday, Dec 28 a meal box for up to 8 days will be provided per student, for those who may need it.

Technology Appropriate Use Expectations

4J established the 2020-21 Summary Tech Appropriate Use Expectations (Spanish version). These serve as guidelines for technology use, summarized, along with the device protection information. We are sharing this with families, students and teachers to help establish expectations for use of technology resources. It includes points that are important to teachers and students, such as expectations that students not record the teacher or others or take screenshots without permission. It also includes information about the Student Device Protection Plan.
Families should note that devices may not be taken out of state, and many learning applications will not work and cannot be supported outside of Oregon.

Key back-to-school information for families

This is a repeat of information already sent to families, but I thought it would be helpful to send it again.
