YG Newsletter – December 3, 2020

Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen,

We are sending out the newsletter a little early this week, because I will be helping with the supply pickup. We also want families to have one more reminder about the times we are available for the pick up. See announcement below for details.

Kocho Sensei

Welcome Karen Cook!

We are pleased to announce that we have hired a new secretary, Karen Cook. Karen comes to us from the North Bend School District, where she served for more than 20 years as the secretary in the athletic department and in their business office. Karen has been on the job since Monday, and she’s been doing a great  learning new attendance and finance systems.

Karen has a few things she would like to share with the YG community:

“Hello YG students and families! I am so happy to join the YG Community and I look forward to meeting all of you one day soon. I’ll share some of my favorite things with you: I enjoy music, I am an avid book reader, and I can hardly wait for Disneyland to reopen! My greatest joy is my family; we have a lot of fun together. Wishing you all a very happy and healthy December!”

We are hoping to get to on-site learning soon, so you can have a chance to see her in person.

Story Time with Naoko Sensei

Last spring Naoko Sensei read stories and shared them with the school community during distance learning. This week, we are sharing additional stories. Click the linked stories below to view the stories:

Thank you, Naoko Sensei, for sharing these stories with us.

Updated Family Contact Directory

This is an updated Contact Directory with more families included a s of 11/24/20. As the pandemic continues and social distancing restrictions are in place, we will need to be creative and support our community to stay connected, while remaining safely quarantined. Teachers will continue to find creative ways for our children to connect during school hours. We continue to encourage you and your children to connect with other families outside of school hours by using Facetime (free for Mac product owners -only 2 participants at a time), Zoom (free -allows multiple people to participate at once), Skype (free -only 2 participants at a time), and even phone calls.Supervision may be required during virtual ‘play-dates’, similar to how you may check in with kids when in the backyard together. The directory includes all families who chose to share their contact information, whether it be a phone number, email or both. Some families chose to share additional contact for other family members as well, and is noted with the relationship to the child. We listed only the information that was shared on the Google form survey.

Technology Appropriate Use Expectations

4J established the 2020-21 Summary Tech Appropriate Use Expectations (Spanish version). These serve as guidelines for technology use, summarized, along with the device protection information. We are sharing this with families, students and teachers to help establish expectations for use of technology resources. It includes points that are important to teachers and students, such as expectations that students not record the teacher or others or take screenshots without permission. It also includes information about the Student Device Protection Plan.
Families should note that devices may not be taken out of state, and many learning applications will not work and cannot be supported outside of Oregon.
