Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen:
We had some news from 4J this week, and I am sharing some information in this week’s newsletter about our plans for hybrid and same school online. This is change from what families were expecting, but we hope it is viewed as an improvement. Families will have one more opportunity to change their pathway.

Families Contacting Other Families
We want to continue to encourage families to use the student contact directory: 友人学園Yujin Gakuen Public Japanese Immersion School_20-21. However, please understand that some families want to maintain their privacy. When parents see another parent on a Zoom session, we ask that you refrain from making contact on Zoom and check the directory to make sure the family wants to be contacted.
iPad Reset Instead of Return
If a student iPad is not working, have them reset the iPad before suggesting they return it. Most issues can be resolved this way. The linked How to Reset an iPad Quick Sheet (English and Spanish) provides directions how to do this and guidance on setting up the iPad after it has been reset.
Headphone Distribution – Thursday, February 18th, 2021
We were not planning to distribute more supplies this month; however, we received a shipment of headsets with microphones. So, we will be making these available for pick up next Thursday afternoon. Families will be able to pick these up in the south entrance, while still maintaining physical distancing. Note: unlike the supply distributions, the headphones will need to be picked up in the afternoon.
Time: 12:30 to 4:00pm
Families who cannot pick up in the afternoon may contact the office to make arrangements to pick up an another time if they cannot pick up at the designated time.
Site Council Meeting – February 18, 2021
The YG Site Council will be meeting next Thursday, February 18th, from 3:00 to 4:00pm, via Zoom. The zoom link will be sent to families via email next Tuesday afternoon along with more information from the last site council meeting in January.

The YG PTO will be meeting on Thursday, February 18th, from 6:30 to 7:30pm. The zoom link will also be sent to families via email and text message Tuesday afternoon. Hope to see you then.
Preparing Students to Return to School
Mark your calendars! We will be holding another family Zoom meeting on March 2nd, from 6:00 to 7:00pm. The topic for this meeting will be preparing students to return to school, knowing that some students will be excited to be in school, while others may be concerned about safety during the pandemic. Some students may feel both excited and concerned. Scott, Naoko Sensei, and Kocho Sensei will meet with families to discuss this and ways to help students address both.
We will also be sharing photos (and perhaps video content) of the common areas and playground for families to view. More information, including the zoom, will be shared in the coming newsletters.
February is Black History Month. If you are interested, these are the resources that we shared with teachers. Some of these may not be appropriate for your child, depending on the age, but we are providing these for families for reference.

K-8 LatinX Family Listening Session
Mark you calendars! We will be holding a combined K-8 listening session for Yujin Gakuen and Kelly LatinX or Spanish-speaking families.

Presidents Day is a Regular School Day
In past years, Presidents Day was a no-school day, but this year it was changed to a regular school day in order to make up one of the days in September (14-16) when school was closed due to poor air quality.
