YG Newsletter – April 8, 2021

Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen:
We are almost through our first week with all students in each grade in the building all together. We finally completed the change from Comprehensive Distance Learning with all students online to the new hybrid schedule. With the two separate cohorts and many students in Same School Online, students are still in distinct groups, but it will be nice to stick to this schedule for the rest of the year. No further changes to our schedule!
We are also pleased that parking has not been as challenging as we had anticipated. Drop off and dismissal seem to be going well. We are hopeful that things move along smoothly as we get adjusted to our new schedules.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility these past few weeks, and thank you for supporting Yujin Gakuen.

Totoro – Part 4!

Friday, 4/9/21 @ 3:00 PM
Please join for a dance party the first 10 min, followed by the 4th part of My Neighbor Totoro. This week, we will be watching for students who are participating during the Dance Party! You may be briefly spotlighted for everyone to see, and will earn a fidget for your efforts!

Totoro Trailer:

My Neighbor Totoro/Film synopsis:
This acclaimed animated tale by director Hayao Miyazaki follows schoolgirl Satsuke and her younger sister, Mei, as they settle into an old country house with their father and wait for their mother to recover from an illness in an area hospital. As the sisters explore their new home, they encounter and befriend playful spirits in their house and the nearby forest, most notably the massive cuddly creature known as Totoro.

Kindergarten Orientation – Tuesday, April 13th

Families who accepted a seat in our kindergarten for next fall were invited to an orientation; however, families who reside outside of 4J were not yet offered a seat, because the lottery for non-4J residents has not been run. If you have a child you are expecting to enroll in kindergarten next fall, you are also invited to the orientation.

The orientation will be held on Zoom at the following link:

Childcare Options

The YMCA is still available for after-school care; however, there were not enough students signed up to support an onsite program. Instead, students in the YMCA program will be escorted, by a YG staff person, to Howard Elementary to join their program.

Champions has partnered with the YMCA to provide full day childcare and distance learning support. See the attached flyer (4J YMCA & Champions.pdf) for more information about both programs.

River Road Park and Recreation also has the After School Adventure Program (A.S.A.P.) available. A.S.A.P. is an extended care service for children with working parents. Certified drivers safely transport children in park district vans from their school to River Road Park, where they will participate in a variety of recreational activities promoting self-esteem, social skills and the value of using leisure time wisely. They are certified with the USDA snack program. The program operates after school and on most scheduled no-school days. OPEN TO FULL TIME PARTICIPANTS ONLY (M-F, 5 days per week, no exceptions). They are currently serving Howard, River Road and Yujin Gakuen elementary schools. For more information see the linked River Road Park and Recreation webpage, or call the park office at 541-688- 4052
