YG Newsletter – May 6, 2021

Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen:

I want to thank the PTO and other families who brought food and gifts for staff in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. I know our staff felt very well taken care of. Thank you for your support.

As we approach the end of our first week in May, I’m reminded that the end of the year is fast approaching. This year, the passage of time was very odd. It feels as though we just got started, having been in hybrid for about a month. Now, we have the end-of-the-year tasks ahead, spring assessments, state testing, and we will also be adding school pictures later this month. This will be a busy month for us.

With all that’s happening this year, I hope students are well and enjoying the change in weather and longer days.

Thank you for supporting Yujin Gakuen.

Sincerely,

Thomas Piowaty

Small Shifts, Big Impacts: Learn about waste prevention at home

The 4J/EWEB Education Partnership (4J/EEP), the City of Eugene and Lane County have come together to provide a home waste prevention education component for 4J elementary families. For the past several years, 4J has received a waste prevention education grant focused on food waste with the Love Food Not Waste Program. With more time at home, it is a good time to learn more about preventing waste at home, what can be recycled & where and more. Shifting to greener choices, helps us help the planet! More info can be found on 4J/EWEB Education Partnership’s No Time to Waste page.

Note: If there are items you don’t need/want, share with a friend or return to the school and we can redistribute them.

Materials bags include:
-Reusable bulk/produce bags
-Bilingual Curbside composting info
-Bilingual Recycle Right info
-Bilingual Produce Storage info
-Lane County Recycling Guide (Note:Spanish copies are from 2019-the new guide is out soon)
-An Apple isn’t just an apple zine for kids (English and Spanish)
-EWEB grant-Water is Life stickers

Lifetouch Panoramic Picture This Monday - SCVi, iLEAD's Founding School

School Pictures

Mark your calendars! We have approval for Lifetouch to be on our school campus to shoot photographs of our students and staff.

Students in Cohort A will have their pictures taken on Tuesday, May 18th
Students in Cohort B will have their pictures taken on Thursday, May 20th
Students in Same School Online will schedule pictures on Wednesday, May 19th

The picture taking process will be touchless this year, and in addition to following their own safety protocols they will follow 4J safety protocols as well.

Some safety measures to keep in mind:

Lifetouch employees will remain in the designated picture taking area at all times.
As a part of their “touchless” process Lifetouch employees and staff will not be touching kids, fixing hair, etc.
There will be no parent volunteers to assist with the process.
Face coverings must remain on until the student is instructed to remove it. Once the picture is taken, the student will immediately put their face covering back on.

Site Council Elections

We are approaching our May Site Council meeting, and it’s time to elect new parent representatives. Last year, with the change to online learning in the spring, we did not hold elections, and the parent members on site council agreed to continue serving this year.

We usually have two parent representatives on site council, each on a two-year term but staggered. This year, since we did not hold elections last year, we will be asking for one parent to serve a one-year term and the other parent to serve for two years.

If you are interested in being on site council, please download and complete one of the following:

Please submit your application by May 12th. Candidates can send their applications via email. If anyone has difficulty with printing and sending applications, please contact the office at: 541-790-4640.

Applications should be sent by email to: piowaty_t@4j.lane.edu. Or, paper copies can be dropped off at the office.

We will hold an election, announcing our candidates in the May 13th newsletter and counting votes at our May 20th Site Council meeting.

For more information see our Site Council page on the YG website.
