Hello YG staff,
I’m making this as quick as I can. I was in a car accident on Saturday afternoon. I’m fine, but my reflexes don’t seem to be normal, and am lacking a bit in coordination, not able to type as quickly as usual and making frequent errors. My car was totaled as you can see from the photo.
I hope you all have a safe and restful weekend.
Staffing
Education Assistant for Kelly and YG: last spring during staffing season I said we were expecting additional staffing for the purpose of providing supervision for students due to the having more students. This staffing was put on hold until recently. We are expecting the job to be posted soon. This will be primarily for the purpose of supervising morning, lunch, and dismissal, along with key times when elementary and middle school students will be crossing paths. We are approved for 7 hours. If you know someone who would be good as a campus monitor or supervisor, please let them know.
Meals Change of Plan
• Seesaw Updates – Justin Huntley and his team were able to go into Clever to activate the Seesaw tile district-wide. This means if a student logins in using their QR code, they’ll be able to see the Clever page and the Seesaw title is back on there. Furthermore, Justin will be setting up our specialist in Seesaw this week.
EdTech Subscriptions & Tools
In case you missed this information last week, here are all of the district purchased EdTech Subscriptions and Tools. Not on the list, we also have a subscription to BrainPOP through December, which is a pretty rad website. Be sure to check that one out and maybe the district will get BrainPOP Jr. and BrainPOP Español if enough people use it. Also, don’t forget GoNoodle Plus is free to educators this school year if you sign- up.
Skipped Videos from Friday PD
With the COVID protocols and all that we had to do last week, I didn’t show all the videos in order to give teachers time for planning. There were two documentaries that were mentioned in the Learning for All that want to share here in case you want to view them.
K-5 Connect & EOA
Families who submitted interest in the online pathways have until Thursday, September 9th to confirm they are enrolling.
Updated District Retention Policy
4J has unofficially used this process the past few years, but linked here is the updated 4J Grade Placement and Retention of Students Policy. In the past it was the principal’s decision, but the new policy makes it more of a team decision, similar to an IEP eligibility process.
Care and Connection Resources
SSD Collaboration Facilitators put together these Care and Connection Resources for teachers to use with students during the first week of school. I shared with in an email on Friday, but in case you didn’t see it, here is the link to the elementary folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Vb8MI95tfIPR8mZYFVrge-RD2fL-6QSS
Copy of Friday Update to Families
Below are copies of the update I sent to families on Friday.
Welcome email from your teacher
I also need to make a correction. In the “Dates to Remember” it said that class lists would be sent home. That was not correct. Instead, families should have received a welcome email from their teacher. The email was sent from their teachers this afternoon. We experienced some technical difficulties getting these out to all our families. If you did not receive an email this afternoon from your teacher, please contact the office at: 541-790-4606 or send an email letting us know you did not receive an email. You might also check your spam folder in case the email got misdirected. Stay tuned next week for a Welcome video from your teacher team. More details to be sent next Tuesday afternoon.
Virtual Open House/Meet and Greet
This fall, schools are not hosting an Open House or Meet and Greet events in person. Yujin Gakuen will be doing their “Meet the Teacher” event virtually instead with teachers creating “welcome” videos for families to view online. More information will be shared with families next Tuesday afternoon.
Question and Answer Session – Sept. 9
We will be hosting a virtual Q&A session on Zoom on Thursday, September 9th, via Zoom. The event will be held from 3:45 to 4:15 pm. Families will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding our schoolwide procedures relating to COVID-19 safety measures and how we are adjusting to a new school location. The zoom link will be sent next Tuesday afternoon. All families are welcome.
Kindergarten Open House – Sept. 9
The Kindergarten “Open House” will be virtual this fall. Parents are invited to meet on Zoom this coming Thursday, September 9th, from 12:00-12:30. The kindergarten team will meet with you Thursday while the students are with the music and PE teachers. This will be a meet and greet. The kindergarten team will talk more about curriculum later after. If you have COVID-19 related questions or concerns or have questions about schoolwide procedures, please attend the Yujin Gakuen Q&A session from 3:45-4:15pm on Thursday. Both Zoom links will be provided next week. The event will be recorded so families who are not able to attend live.
Change in Pick Up and Drop Off for First Grade
We are planning a change to the drop off and pick up for first grade students. This will be mainly a change in the traffic pattern. The entry and exit points will not change. More information to follow in next Tuesday’s announcements.
