YG Family Newsletter – December 16th, 2021

Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen,

We are approaching the end of 2021 and the end of a very unusual year. At this time last year, we were completely in online learning. We moved to hybrid, then back to online. Fortunately we are back to in-person learning. We still face some challenges with COVID protocols, students in quarantine, and uncertainty about when we will get back to “normal.” Through it all, we managed to maintain a positive outlook and a renewed focus on fostering our students’ social and emotional well-being. Our staff have been very focused on social-emotional learning, and it has paid off as our students have been very well mannered and respectful.

I want to take this moment to extend my thanks to our PTO and to our families who have been amazing partners. Your support getting students to school on time, ensuring they turn in their homework, and communicating with our teachers is very much appreciated. Your fundraising and donations have helped us to make the best of a challenging year. We are forever grateful for your generosity.

In the spirit of the holiday season, I wish you and your families a warm, safe, and joyful winter break. Thank you for supporting Yujin Gakuen. Happy holidays, and have a wonderful new year!

Yours sincerely,
Kocho Sensei

New Hire Documents - San Rafael Employees

2nd Grade Japanese Teacher for Fridays

As you know, Naoko Sensei has been teaching Monday through Thursday each week. Jody Garratt was officially hired to teach Japanese on Fridays for the rest of the year. We are fortunate that Jody is a native Japanese speaker. Students will recognize her, since she has substituted in our 2nd grade class this year. She works well with our staff, and she has been quick to learn our system at YG. Jody is also a YG parent and has been very supportive of our school before her recent hiring.

Please welcome Jody Sensei to our staff.

Winter Weather: Be In the Know

4J offers families many ways to find out when hazardous weather impacts schools or bus routes • NO NEWS = NO CHANGE

The weather is mild right now, but winter is coming. There are several ways to find out when hazardous weather conditions close or delay schools or alter bus routes.

How to find out if there is a change:

  • Text message from the district (if you are not currently receiving occasional text messages with important information from 4J, learn how)
  • Check the district website, www.4j.lane.edu
  • Follow 4J social media: FacebookTwitter @4Jweather & @4Jschools
  • Tune in to local radio and television news stations

No news = no change. School closures and other changes are decided early in the morning and announced by all of these methods before 6:30 a.m. If schools and buses are on their regular schedules, there will NOT be an announcement.

Connect With Kindness

Our students have been encouraged to practice small acts of kindness every day. Scott Sensei has set up the ‘Time for Kindness’ calendar so students can accomplish small acts of kindness for themselves and others this winter season.

Please check out the calendar below so they can continue to their efforts.

Below is a link to some fun music videos talking about kindness:

Keep Schools Safe, Stay Home When Sick

Check for wellness each day before coming to school

To help everyone at school stay healthy, students and staff need to be healthy when they come to school. If your student is feeling unwell, or if they or anyone in their home has symptoms of COVID-19 or other communicable diseases, they need to stay at home.

Symptoms that should keep a student home include:

  • Fever of 100.4º or higher
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Shortness of breath
  • Difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting – home for 48 hours after or release by healthcare provider

If your student has any of these symptoms, please keep them at home and call your school’s attendance line.

If your student has been diagnosed or exposed to COVID-19, or is waiting for test results to check on COVID symptoms, please keep them home and notify our office.

If your student has a chronic health condition that could look like COVID symptoms—including conditions that cause a cough or shortness of breath, such as asthma or allergies—please talk to our nurse and document it in their health history, or they may be sent home from school if they are showing these symptoms.

Thank you for helping students and staff stay healthy in our school buildings. More Information: Health & Safety Protocols
