May 13th Meeting – Notes

Someone asked that the meeting notes be shared in the staff newsletter. There are some things that I thought about after the meeting, and they are in blue text.

Expectations for teaching ELA

•  Eric Anderson says he expects all ELA teachers to teach the new curriculum. We will not have the option of keeping old Journeys or other old curriculum. If this is an issue, let me know.
• Most ELA teachers are not excited about Journeys anyway, so I don’t think this will be a problem.
• Teachers will need to pack their old ELA materials. Boxes have been ordered, and the warehouse will move them during the summer.
  • Ashley – Question, can we keep some books from BAW?
  • Can we get another recycling bin? Tom will talk with Dave about another bin

Plastic forks, spoons, etc

• Please do not take from the kitchen
• Laura has ordered a set of plasticware that we will use for events and celebrations, etc.
• Staff should bring their own cutlery when eating their own lunches, or using the regular forks, knives and spoons, etc that we have in the staff room.

Items for Discussion

Preparation or questions ahead of the May 20th meeting. Scott shared a document for staff to write down their concerns over space. See below.

• Facility & space concerns at 850 Howard
• Ask for an agenda for May 20th meeting
• Continuity into next year
• Projections for increased growth?
• Tour ECCO or Willard – Note: this was not discussed at the meeting, but if a modular building was added to the campus, it would be used by Kelly, not YG. In order to add more space for YG, we would add a classroom to our side of the building, likely Room 15. This would make more sense as the modular would likely be added to the east side of the campus. In addition, Room 15 has a sink, and it would be best suited for elementary use. I don’t think a tour of ECCO for YG staff would be necessary.
  

NED Virtual Assembly – May 23rd or 24th

• Will schedule after 1PM, so that the assembly does not interfere with specials
• We are leaning towards holding the assembly on Tuesday, but would like to hear teacher feedback before making a decision
• The PTO would likely buy some yoyos that we could use as an incentive.
  • Staff are in favor of holding the virtual assembly
  • Tuesday at 1PM

Field Day Draft Schedule – Jun 9, 2022

We are still in communication with NEHS regarding 9th grade students helping us with a field day experience. However, there was talk that it would be a regional field day, but that’s not my understanding. Regardless of whether or not 9th graders can help us, we do have interns available who can help supervise the events. Additionally, we will have two teachers available to supervise during each session.

Grades 4-5 – 8:45-9:45
Grades 2-3 – 10:10-11:10
Grades K-1 – 11:45-12:45

Intern Appreciation Luncheon? Ideas for when to hold the event?

• Alternate days/times to hold the luncheon
• Or, identify a day, and have food in the staff room, and understand that we cannot all be there together at the same time.
• June 10th – 11:00-1:00 – staff determined that this was the best time; however, Tom sent an email after the meeting. Teachers might prefer holding an intern appreciation dessert on June 3rd after school. See the staff poll that was shared on Friday afternoon.

Last Day of School Release Time

Guest Teachers and Substitutes

Laura will be taking leave on Thursday and Friday, and Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the following week. We do not have a substitute lined up for her this week, but Jessica Claypool will be in on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday – Lauralie will be taking leave, and Gale Fiszman will cover for her.
Wednesday – Maran will be taking the afternoon off, and Matt Houser will cover for her.
Thursday – Naoko will be out, and Jody will cover for her. Mary will be taking an IEP release day, and Alison Halderman will substitute for her.
