As a reminder, we have no school tomorrow, October 14th. Have a great 3-day weekend, and thank you for supporting Yujin Gakuen.

Welcome Barb Sensei

I’m pleased to announce that we have hired Barb Stroh as our new special education teacher. Mary Gevatosky, our former special education teacher, moved to Corvallis and took a job there. We are fortunate that Barb Sensei decided to come out of retirement to take the assignment and fill in after Mary’s departure. Barb has extensive experience teaching reading as she was a reading specialist in 4J. Some of you might know Barb Sensei as Kelly Sensei’s mom. She is also a former YG parent, and is currently a YG grandparent.

Please welcome Barb Sensei to Yujin Gakuen!

Health Screening- Friday, October 28th

*Dental screening offered for all students*

*Vision screening offered for K through 3rd*

Our vision screening this year will be Friday October 28th during the school day for kindergarten through third grade. This vision screening will be done by a “Spot Test” with the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation volunteers and does NOT take the place of a thorough eye examination by an eye health specialist, as serious or eye health problems can be missed. If the results of the vision screening indicate your student needs a thorough eye exam, you will be notified of results after we receive them, generally 2-4 weeks after the screening date. The volunteers are required to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Our dental screening is offered for all students.  Students of Parents and Guardians who chose to return the Authorization for Dental hygiene Services can receive a fluoride varnish treatment, which helps prevent cavities. These services are provided by the Community Health Centers of Lane County dental hygiene providers.

Please let us know if you do not wish your child to participate.

Birthday Celebrations

At Yujin Gakuen, we acknowledge and celebrate birthdays. Some of our traditions include: announcing the birthday child’s name in the morning meeting, posting the names of each child along with their birthdays, and sometimes giving a special privilege (being first in line or leading the class during morning calendar. Teachers do want your child to feel special on their birthday.

We do not support the practice of bringing treats to share during class. If you want to do something special to acknowledge your child’s special day, we strongly encourage families to consider sending a non-food item the entire class can enjoy such as:

  • A new game for the classroom to play during indoor recess;
  • A classroom book (a nice touch would be having your child pick it out, sign and date it).
  • Coloring books or art supplies

The items listed above will still make your child feel special and they will last longer than any food item. If you have questions, please contact me at: 541-790-4640.

Volunteer Opportunities | Alexander City Alabama

Volunteer at Yujin Gakuen

Many of our parents asked what steps they need to take to volunteer at school. Please see the links below or visit the 4J webpage “Volunteer in the Eugene District 4J.”

As a parent or guardian, you may wonder how you can get involved in your child’s education. One great way to do this is by volunteering in the Eugene District 4J schools. Volunteering offers many benefits for both you and your child. It’s a great way to meet other parents and get to know the teachers and staff at your child’s school. It can also be a fun and rewarding way to spend some time with your child.

If you’re interested in volunteering, there are a few things you need to do. First, you’ll need to complete a background check. You can find more information about this on the 4J website. You’ll also need to complete a mandatory training session. Once you’ve done these things, you’ll be ready to start volunteering.

So why not give it a try? Volunteering is a great. See the links below to get started or visit “Volunteer in the Eugene District 4J.”

Attendance at YG

We recently received a report on our attendance for the month of September. I am pleased to announce that our attendance for the first 23 days of school was 94%, third highest in the district. While the goal is for our attendance to be above 95%, we recognize that there have been more absences due to the smoky air conditions and students being out due to illness. We appreciate your bringing you child(ren) to school on time.

Safety Week at YG

Next week we will be conducting some safety drills. We will hold a building wide earthquake drill on Thursday, October 20th. Teachers will also be conducting “room clear” drills. The earthquake drills are required each year, and we usually do one on the day of the “Great Shakeout.” See video: The Great Shakeout PSA” to learn more about earthquake preparedness.

We will be advising students to Drop, Cover, and Hold On! during our earthquake drill. While teachers will be teaching these procedures, it would not hurt to review them with your child. More information about earthquake preparedness can be found at: https://www.shakeout.org/
