YG Newsletter – October 29, 2020

Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen

We had a short week for instruction, but teachers have two long 12-hour days. I hope you will take this time to have a pleasant conference with your teachers and then take a nice three-day weekend to rejuvenate and tend to your family and social needs. Many families will be celebrating the fall festivities; however your family chooses to spend the weekend, we hope you have a pleasant and safe weekend. Please continue to follow social distancing, and remember to wash your hands!

Yours sincerely,

Kocho Sensei

Thank you to the parents who participated in our parent zoom last night. We really appreciate everyone’s feedback and willingness to share both challenges and solutions. Attached are the resources Scott mentioned during the meeting, along with meeting notes that Ashley Ferryman so kindly kept.

Erin’s Law Information

Hello families;

Erin’s Law requires that elementary schools share information with students during the year to ensure our students are aware of safe and unsafe touch, and the safe people who they can talk with in their community.

Below are web addresses for age-appropriate, Protect Yourself videos that will be posted via Seesaw. Included is a snapshot of the main ideas presented in the videos, which could be displayed in a prominent place in your home.

Also, attached to this email, are age-specific guidelines for talking with kids about preventing sexual abuse. These are being sent out in advance so you have time to review prior to your children seeing these on Seesaw as a required assignment.

Technology Appropriate Use Expectations

4J established the 2020-21 Summary Tech Appropriate Use Expectations (Spanish version). These serve as guidelines for technology use, summarized, along with the device protection information. We are sharing this with families, students and teachers to help establish expectations for use of technology resources. It includes points that are important to teachers and students, such as expectations that students not record the teacher or others or take screenshots without permission. It also includes information about the Student Device Protection Plan.
Families should note that devices may not be taken out of state, and many learning applications will not work and cannot be supported outside of Oregon.

Key back-to-school information for families

This is a repeat of information already sent to families, but I thought it would be helpful to send it again.

Do you have what you need for your student’s return to learning? Here are links to some key back-to-school information. For more information see the 4J webpage.
