YG Newsletter – April 1, 2021

Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen:
It was a pleasure seeing our kindergarten and first grade students at school this week, and it was great to finally see the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students in person during their orientations this week. 2nd graders will come to school today for their orientations.
Next week, all students in hybrid will be in the building. Staff are happy and relieved to have students in the building on the same schedule.
Thank you for supporting Yujin Gakuen.
Sincerely,
Kocho Sensei

Slideshows of 2-5 Classrooms

In last week’s newsletter, we gave families a glimpse of the classrooms. This week we are showing slideshows of the classrooms for grades 2-5 so families can have a look inside the building.

Childcare Options

The YMCA is still available for after-school care; however, there were not enough students signed up to support an onsite program. Instead, students in the YMCA program will be escorted, by a YG staff person, to Howard Elementary to join their program.

Champions has partnered with the YMCA to provide full day childcare and distance learning support. See the attached flyer (4J YMCA & Champions.pdf) for more information about both programs.

River Road Park and Recreation also has the After School Adventure Program (A.S.A.P.) available. A.S.A.P. is an extended care service for children with working parents. Certified drivers safely transport children in park district vans from their school to River Road Park, where they will participate in a variety of recreational activities promoting self-esteem, social skills and the value of using leisure time wisely. They are certified with the USDA snack program. The program operates after school and on most scheduled no-school days. OPEN TO FULL TIME PARTICIPANTS ONLY (M-F, 5 days per week, no exceptions). They are currently serving Howard, River Road and Yujin Gakuen elementary schools. For more information see the linked River Road Park and Recreation webpage, or call the park office at 541-688- 4052

REPEAT from Last Week

Drop Off and Pick Up Routes

As you know, this is the first year at our new location, and families have not had to drop off and pick up from this site before. We created a map assist families who need to drive to drop off and pick up their students.

You can open and download the linked map to in order to view in full-size. More specific directions can be found on this

The following information is from a letter sent on March 12th. This document focuses on arrival and dismissal procedures. Parking is limited, so it’s important that everyone knows where to drop off and pick up so families can pick up their children safely and efficiently.

Arrival and Dismissal:

Student Drop Off Procedures: Kinder and 2nd Grade Only

  • Kinder and 2nd grade students will be dropped off at the “round about” in the south entrance. Parents may also choose to park in the west lot near Park Avenue and walk their child to the south door.
  • Drive slowly and be mindful of children waiting at the entrance.
  • Keep moving: As the cars in front of you move, move ahead as well. All adults will need to stay in the car.
  • Say goodbye quickly: Have your child exit or enter your car quickly but safely to help keep traffic flowing. Certainly allow time for your child to unbuckle their seat belts.
  • Do not exit your vehicle in the drop off and pick up lane.
  • Please be patient: With many parents deciding to use this method of transportation to and from school, it will take longer to get to the loading/unloading zone.
  • Stay Alert: Our parking lot can get busy, so please watch for students.

Student Dismissal Procedures: Kindergarten and 2nd Grade

  • Families will need to pick up from the south drive-through
  • An attendant will be located in the lot to help direct traffic
  • Please stop and let the attendant know which child or children you are picking up.
  • The attendant will radio inside and your child will walk out to the pick up site.
  • We will line up 4-5 cars near the exit and load children in shifts, with one set of cars loading while another set of cars wait around the perimeter of the drive through.
  • When one set of cars leaves, another set of cars will be lined up, and their children will be called to be picked up.
  • We know this may take a while, especially at the beginning, but please bear with us as we are trying to find the safest way to dismiss our youngest children.
Student Drop Off  Procedures: First Grade

  • First grade students will be dropped off at the west of the school, facing North Park Avenue. See linked map.
  • Families are encouraged to pause park in the west lot, and walk their children to the door.

Student Dismissal Procedures: First Grade

  • First grade students will be dismissed from the west exit..
  • Families are encouraged to pause park in the west lot and walk in to pick up their children.
  • It’s important to leave as soon as your child is picked up in order to make a space available to others.
  • Families may not stay on school grounds to chat with other families. Even though its dismissal time for YG, Kelly Middle School is still in session.
  • The driveway will need to be cleared in time for buses to park to pick up Kelly Middle School students.
Scott Sensei made a video last week showing where to drop off kindergarten and first grade students. Included in the video is the location to drop off children if you arrive after school has already started.

Student Drop Off  Procedures: 3rd-5th Grade

  • Students, grades 3-5, will be dropped off at the front of the building, facing Howard Avenue. See linked map.
  • Families may choose to park and walk in or pause park and release students.
  • Unlike the round about at the south end of the building, the driveway in the north end has room for one set of cars to pause park next to the curb and another set of cars to slant park in the parking lot.
  • Say goodbye quickly: Have your child exit or enter your car quickly but safely to help keep traffic flowing. Certainly allow time for your child to unbuckle their seat belts.

Student Dismissal Procedures: 3rd-5th Grade

  • Students will be dismissed from the main doors at the front of the building.
  • Cars may wait at the curb for their child or park in the lot.
  • Cars all need to move in one direction, from the west to the east in the driveway.
  • Stay Alert: Our parking lot can get busy, so please watch for students.
  • It’s important to leave as soon as your child is picked up in order to make a space available to others.
  • Families may not stay on school grounds to chat with other families. Even though its dismissal time for YG, Kelly Middle School is still in session.
  • The driveway will need to be cleared in time for buses to park to pick up Kelly Middle School students
