Dear YG staff,

We have 4 days of school this week, and 3-and-a-half days next week. Getting close to the end.

Items of Note for This Week

Access Clever Available to Students this Summer

Students will have access to Clever all summer long. At the very end of summer they will be switched to their new teacher’s Clever page, but would have access to this year’s teachers until then. Students will also always have access to district apps, like Dreambox, Seesaw and others, which are available on the first page they see when they sign in.

Summer Technology Checkout Form

If you are taking home any school devices (laptop, iPad, doc cam, or other devices) for the summer, you need to complete the 4J: Technology Equipment Checkout Contract 2020-21.

State Update for School in Fall

An ODE News Release from last week stated that students will attend school full-time, five days per week in the fall, but since vaccines will not be ready for all students by then some health and safety measures will remain in place.

School Supplies for 2021-2022

Julia Girod sent an email to elementary secretaries regarding school supplies 4J will be purchasing for next school year. Here are the CORE items we will be planning to stock:

  • Pencils
  • Erasers
  • Crayons
  • Colored Pencils
  • Markers – thin
  • Markers – broadline
  • Glue
  • Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Rulers
  • Hand held sharpener
  • Composition Notebooks
  • Spiral Notebooks

Purchasing recognizes that the list does not cover every school supply needed in classrooms. However, the district will be giving the schools some additional budget to purchase more items.

If you feel there are some items that are missing from the CORE list, let Laura or me know ASAP. If enough schools ask for certain items (such as folders, which are not on the list), then they will consider adding those items.

Log out of Seesaw over the Weekend

In case you missed Justin Huntley’s email, I’m posting an excerpt here:

Please, over the weekend logout of Seesaw within the program (by clicking your name in the top right, then clicking the gear and scrolling down to log out), restart your device and then log back into Seesaw. Hopefully this will fix the some of the minor issues we are seeing. If you are continuing to see issues and/or are experiencing something else, then please submit a tech ticket.
I have had a few questions about the end of the year process for Seesaw, this is a nice little video that may clear some things up.  We do not do the year-end roll over with Synergy (Where we load your new classes until August.)  Students should have access to apps over the summer until the rollover.
Second, we are happy to announce a wonderful and optional professional development in August. We understand that this has been a long and difficult year and that many people are looking forward to a much deserved and needed summer break.  We also know that many folks begin planning and thinking about the year to come, long before they have to officially return to work.  We are bringing in several Apple Learning Specialist from across the country and organizing a 4-day PD called Camp iPad, August 16th-19th.    You will get to work in small groups learning new strategies and updates around the use of the Apple Suite on the iPad.  You will get to develop some lessons and become more comfortable using the iPad in the classroom.  There is more information about the camp and some perks about attending, in the form below.   We wanted to make sure and get this information out to you, for your planning purposes and because space is limited.   If you are interested, please join us for some learning, exploring and sharing around the campfire.

Repeat – Last Week of School Planning

June 14 (M) – Cohort A, Kinder and 2nd grade SSO live zoom, Cohort B asynchronous
June 15 (T) – Cohort B, 1st and 4th grade SSO live on zoom, Cohort A asynchronous
June 16 (W) – On-Site for K-4
June 17 (Th) –  K-4 online while 5th grade attend in-person

June 18 (F) – 2nd Grade iPad Return, 8:00-2:00

Repeat – Report Cards

Report cards will go home with hybrid students during the Wednesday, June 16th, on-site events for K-4, and Thursday, June 17th, for 5th graders. We will mail report cards to students if they do not come to the field day experience.

Parent reports on Thursday – the 4J Data team will be uploading parent reports on Wednesday. I will plan on printing these for teachers if you want them.

Specialists reports due Friday – specialists should have reports ready for classroom teachers by Friday. Special Education progress notes will be sent by email to families.

Repeat – Journeys Textbooks

With K-4 students coming on-site on the last Wednesday, we need to collect Journeys textbooks when students come on site, even though there will be one additional school day. We will collect textbooks from 5th grade students on the last Thursday, when they are on-site.

Repeat – Collecting 2nd Grade iPads

Instruction has decided most students will keep their iPads over the summer. However, because 3rd grade will have different iPads, we will need to collect iPads from 2nd grade.

They will return iPads after the last day of school on Friday, June 18th between 8:00-2:00. If we get the charger and cord, great! If we don’t, the district is not going to worrying about it. 4J will notify families about this, but I will also announce it in the newsletter.



Repeat – Masks & Vaccination Verification

Staff should note in the Face Mask & Vaccination Verification Email that staff must continue with current mask protocols until your vaccination status is verified. It’s not clear if that verification will come as an email to staff or if it will come to me first when I pass out the verification stickers to put on your badges (which principals haven’t gotten yet)

Repeat – Class Lists for 2021-2022

Teacher teams should start to create their suggestions for class lists next year. Please use the linked YG Class Lists 2021-2022 sheet to enter the information for the next grade’s team to suggest class configurations based on what you know of the students’ performance this year. In this year’s list, some teachers added information about students whose parents were volunteers. I did not include a column for that information, but teachers are free to edit their sheets.

Update On Kelly Building

Cydney Vandercar responded to a parent’s questions regarding portables after watching the school board meeting last Wednesday. She said:

“The district has one portable that can be used at the Kelly/YG site for next year and another one needs to be ordered. We are working with the City of Eugene to do so according to policy. I know you virtually attended the board meeting and heard that the structural engineer has given the green light for using the building next September. The inner gym may or may not be available as we have not received the plans for completing the repairs from the contractor.”
