Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Dear YG families,

This document focuses on arrival and dismissal procedures. Parking is limited, so it’s important that everyone knows where to drop off and pick up so families can pick up their children safely and efficiently.

Arrival and Dismissal:

School hours are 8:30-3:00 Monday-Thursday; 8:30-1:45 on Fridays.

Doors will open in the mornings at 8:20 am. If students arrive before drop off, they will need to stand at least 3 feet apart while waiting.

Unlike past years, before COVID, students will not be eating breakfast in the cafeteria before school starts. Instead, they will eat breakfast in the classroom as they did during hybrid last spring.

  • There is no supervision before 8:20 am. or after 3:00 pm (2:00 pm on Fridays).
  • Students must be accompanied by an adult at all times and therefore not dropped off early to wait.
  • The entrance will open at 8:20 for students to head to their classrooms for breakfast.
  • When dropping off students, please keep them in (or next to your car) until the entrances open at 8:20 am. Students should not line up early as there is no supervision until that time.
  • Parents will not be able to walk their child to their classroom again this year. The only adults allowed beyond our entry doors will be 4J staff.
  • Entry doors will close at 8:30 am. Please accompany your child to the front entry after this time.
  • Students will keep 3 ft of distance to the extend possible when on campus.

Student Drop Off Procedures: Kinder and 2nd Grade Only
Please note a change in drop off procedures for kindergarten. All kindergarten students will need to be dropped off at the “round about” in the south entrance. Kindergarten students who have siblings can be dropped off in the same location.

2nd grade students will also be dropped off at the south entrance. 2nd grade students who have older siblings can be dropped off at the main entrance near Howard Avenue.

  • Drive slowly and be mindful of children waiting at the entrance.
  • Keep moving: As the cars in front of you move, move ahead as well. All adults will need to stay in the car.
  • Say goodbye quickly: Have your child exit or enter your car quickly but safely to help keep traffic flowing. Certainly allow time for your child to unbuckle their seat belts.
  • Do not exit your vehicle in the drop off and pick up lane.
  • Please be patient: With many parents deciding to use this method of transportation to and from school, it will take longer to get to the loading/unloading zone.
  • Stay Alert: Our parking lot can get busy, so please watch for students.

Student Dismissal Procedures: Kindergarten and 2nd Grade
All Kindergarten students and 2nd grade students who do not have other siblings will need to be picked up from the “round about” in the south entrance.

  • Families will pick up from the south drive-through.
  • An attendant will be located in the lot to help direct traffic.
  • Please stop and let the attendant know which child or children you are picking up.
  • The attendant will radio inside and your child will walk out to the pick up site.
  • We will line up 4-5 cars near the exit and load children in shifts, with one set of cars loading while another set of cars wait around the perimeter of the drive through.
  • When one set of cars leaves, another set of cars will be lined up, and their children will be called to be picked up.
  • We know this may take a while, especially at the beginning, but please bear with us as we are trying to find the safest way to dismiss our youngest children.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures: 3rd-5th Grade
Students in grades 3-5 and students who are in grades 3-5 and also have 2nd and 1st grade siblings should all enter through the same entrance.

  • Students, grades 3-5, and their younger siblings in 2nd and 1st grade will be dropped off at the front of the school, facing Howard Avenue.
  • Families may choose to park and walk in. but parking may be very limited.
  • We encourage families to pause park and release students.
  • Unlike the round about at the south end of the building, the driveway in the north end has room for one set of cars to pause park next to the curb and another set of cars to slant park in the parking lot. However, slant parking may be limited.
  • Say goodbye quickly: have your child exit or enter your car quickly but safely to help keep traffic flowing. Certainly allow time for your child to unbuckle their seat belts.
  • Do not exit your vehicle in the drop off and pick up lane.

Student Pick Up Procedures: 3rd-5th Grades and Younger Siblings
Students in grades 3-5 and students who are in grades 3-5 and also have 2nd and 1st grade siblings should all be picked up from the front of the building.

  • Students will exit through the main doors on the north side of the building.
  • Families may pause park in the north lot and walk toward the main doors to pick up their children.
  • It’s important to leave as soon as your child is picked up in order to make a space available to others.
  • Families may not stay on school grounds to chat with other families. Even though its dismissal time for YG, Kelly Middle School is still in session.
  • The driveway will need to be cleared in time for buses to park to pick up Kelly Middle School students.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures: First Grade – Updated
The drop off and pick up for first grade students will be in the west parking lot, but we are working on changing the traffic pattern and doing some problem-solving. We are hoping to share the plan with first grade families Wednesday afternoon.

Thank you for being patient and understanding as we coordinate our drop off and pick up procedures and the associated traffic. We expect to see some “hiccups” as we get started, but things will move along smoothly after the first week or so.
