Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen:
We had a very short week for students with only two days of instruction this week. Teachers have two long 12-hour days, but fortunately, we get a break for Veteran’s Day and a long weekend. With the holiday falling on Thursday, we are sending this newsletter out a day early.
I hope all is well for you and your families.🍁
Yours sincerely,
Kocho Sensei

Welcome New StaffPlease welcome Mike Zimmerman. He is the new campus monitor who supervises in the hallways before and after school. Mike is serving both schools so he is a staff member at YG and Kelly MS. Mike started last Wednesday, and many of our students have already had the opportunity to talk with him. Mike is a former marine and also studied Japanese in college. He is a great addition to the YG and Kelly staff. Dave Alderson was recently hired as our new day (and head) custodian. We are very fortunate to have Dave here in the building. He has a lot of prior experience as a school custodian. He has been doing an amazing job of keeping up with all the demands of the job. He shared recently that he is impressed with how well-mannered and respectful our students are. It was a pleasant surprise and not what he was expecting. |

Yujin Gakuen DirectoryDear Yujin Gakuen families,
We understand that during this time of our continued COVID precautions, it can be more challenging to meet parents from our school community and help foster connections for our children outside of school. If you would like to be included in our YG directory this year, please use this Google Link to share your contact information and we will organize these into a PDF that will be emailed to our YG families.

A Message from Nurse Robin Sensei:Health Screening- December 10th, 2021Our vision screening this year will be Friday, December 10th during the school day for grades K-3. This vision screening will be done by a “Spot Test” with the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation volunteers and does NOT take the place of a thorough eye examination by an eye health specialist, as serious or eye health problems can be missed. If the results of the vision screening indicate your student needs a thorough eye exam, you will be notified of results after we receive them, generally 2-4 weeks after the screening date. The volunteers are required to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Our dental screening this year also will be Friday, December 10th during the school day, for grades K-5. This is an oral health screening, a quick look, and DOES NOT take the place of a complete examination by a dentist. Serious oral health problems may be missed in a brief visual screening. The screening is performed by the Community Health Centers of Lane County, Dental Prevention. Additionally, if an authorization for Dental Hygiene Services was returned, the Dental Prevention Program may offer a fluoride varnish treatment during the screening. There is a possibility that dental insurance would be billed, as mentioned on their consent form. |

Choose Your Learning LocationThere are three learning pathways available to 4J students this school year:
Families may request to change between these programs at the change of term. For elementary students, January 10th is the deadline to submit change requests for Semester 2, which begins January 31st. If you want to change your student’s learning pathway for the second term of the school year, please complete and submit your request form by the deadline for their grade level. Submit a separate form for each student. ONLY complete the form if you want to make a change. If you want to continue with your student’s current enrollment, you do not need to respond. |
Schools could be closed November 24th & January 14th if approved by School Board
4J schools may be closed the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 24th, and the Friday before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 14th, if the school board approves the change. These would be no-school days for students and full work days for district staff.
4J prioritizes student learning time, but also must prioritize staff being prepared to support student learning time. The days would provide critically needed planning, preparation and administration time for staff addressing COVID-related needs and ongoing staffing shortages as well as their regular workload, so they can continue to make our schools safe and stable and serve students as well as possible.
The school board must approve changes to the school calendar. The board will discuss the proposed change on November 3rd and is slated to vote on whether to approve it at the next meeting on November 17th. Families will be notified of the decision.
