YG Transition – Update

YG Transition – Update

Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen:

I’m writing to provide an update about the options available for Yujin Gakuen’s future location. Some of our families heard news about the North Eugene High School building. As you know, when YG moved to 850 Howard, the old North High School building was considered as a potential site for either Kelly or YG to relocate after the new high school was built.

Parents who attended the Kelly parent meeting last Thursday were informed that the old NEHS site would not be an option for either YG or Kelly to move to in the future. Using the current North Eugene High School building for any program is not an option due to the cost of renovating the North building. The Willard swing school site may be an option for YG. The earliest possible move the Fall of 2024 following completion of Camas Elementary building project.

On Friday, the Kelly and YG staff held a joint meeting to discuss the news about the old North building, address questions and continue our work together as a K-8 staff.

Secondary Director Andy Dey and Elementary Immersion Director Melissa Ibarra also participated in the meeting, and took back questions from staff to ensure that staff feedback will have a significant impact on district decision-making for the future.

GUIDING QUESTIONS that our K-8 staff processed:

  • What questions do we need answered to inform district-decision making about remaining as a K-8 school or YG program moving to another site?
  • What additional information would staff need to make an informed recommendation to district leadership regarding remaining as a K-8 or YG program moving to another site?

These questions will also be discussed at YG’s site council meeting, scheduled for Thursday, February 17th.

All YG families are invited to attend the site council meeting. An agenda will be included in this week’s family newsletter.

Yours sincerely,

Kocho Sensei.
