I hope you and your family are having a wonderful school year! We are excited to see you at our annual Curriculum Night. Curriculum Night is an opportunity for you to come to school and learn about the class and about the new curriculum we will be implementing. You will have a chance to meet your child’s teacher and see some of the work they have been doing. See below for details about the time.
Please note: we do not have childcare for this event. Please keep your student(s) at home as we are unable to provide child care. Please also take into account the limited parking available. I recommend that you give yourselves time to park and walk to the building.

Curriculum Night – Thursday, September 29
6:00-6:40, Grades 3,4, and 5
6:45-7:25, Grades 1 and 2
Parents and guardians are invited to visit your classroom teachers, onsite in their classrooms. This will be an opportunity to learn about
- the general flow of a typical day
- classroom expectations
- homework policies
- how families can support their child’s learning
- introduction to the curriculum
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions of our staff and administration. We look forward to seeing our kindergarten families in person.
Note about childcare: We will not be providing childcare during this event. We ask that you keep students at home. We cannot accommodate all our students and their parents at the same time.

Volunteers Needed!
Hello YG Families!
The PTO is looking for volunteers to man the beverage booth at the UO vs. Stanford game Saturday, October 1st starting at 5PM. Bus passes and parking passes for carpooling are available.
An OLCC license is required for most positions but not required to help out in a small number of other positions. The PTO will also reimburse all testing and licensing fees for the online course and government certification needed. If you have the time, please sign up here:

Kelly Middle School Pet Supply Drive
The KMS Community Service class is holding a pet supply drive until Wednesday, October 12. We are collecting collars, leashes, pet food (canned and dry), pet beds, pet food/water dishes, blankets and other pet supplies. All donations go to Pro-Bone-O Clinic at the Eugene Mission.

Eugene Public Library Cards

What’s the most powerful school supply? A library card! All students enrolled in Eugene School District 4J schools can get a Eugene Public Library card for free, whether or not they live within Eugene’s city limits.
Plus new this year: all children from birth to kindergarten who live in Eugene School District 4J can also get a free library card, even if they live outside city limits.
Eugene Public Library offers print books, ebooks, audiobooks online and on CD, movies and television shows streaming online and on DVD/Blu–Ray, magazines and comics in print and online, music on CDs and online, videogames on discs, learning kits and a Library of Things.
A Eugene Public Library card is also the key to free online benefits including:

• Animated read-along books (TumbleBooks)
• Educational children’s shows, including PBS (Kanopy Kids)

Learn to Ride a Bike – A Free, All Ages, Drop-In Event!
Friday, Oct 7th, stop by any time between 3:00-6:00pm
4J District Office parking lot, 200 North Monroe Street
Do you or your child want to learn how to ride a bike? We’ll start with balancing and gliding without pedals or training wheels. Some will learn to pedal in one session, while others may need more practice to reach that final goal.
Join Safe Routes to School, Cascadia Mobility, the City of Eugene, the City of Springfield and Shift Community Cycles for this fun event with pedal-powered smoothies, bike checks, information about bike share, and workshops for families and individuals of all ages on biking for transportation.
You don’t need your own bike to participate, but please bring a helmet and bike if you have one. Contact Safe Routes to School at (541) 516-0887 or mazze_s@4j.lane.edu with questions or to volunteer.

Volunteer at Yujin Gakuen
Many of our parents asked what steps they need to take to volunteer at school. Please see the links below or visit the 4J webpage “Volunteer in the Eugene District 4J.”
As a parent or guardian, you may wonder how you can get involved in your child’s education. One great way to do this is by volunteering in the Eugene District 4J schools. Volunteering offers many benefits for both you and your child. It’s a great way to meet other parents and get to know the teachers and staff at your child’s school. It can also be a fun and rewarding way to spend some time with your child.
If you’re interested in volunteering, there are a few things you need to do. First, you’ll need to complete a background check. You can find more information about this on the 4J website. You’ll also need to complete a mandatory training session. Once you’ve done these things, you’ll be ready to start volunteering.
