YG Family Newsletter- October 20th, 2022
Dear friends and families of Yujin Gakuen:
We had a lot of smoke this week, and our students have had to spend a lot of time indoors. We have rain in the forecast for this weekend, so we are hoping that we enter the rainy season and that it will help with the fires in the area. Students have been patient as we have been holding indoor recess, but we know they are eager to get back outside. 🌰
Deleted:We are postponing the planned earthquake drill due to the poor weather. We will reschedule for next week. It’s hard to believe we are wrapping up week #7. 🍂
Thank you for supporting Yujin Gakuen. 🍁

Attendance at YGWe recently received a report on our attendance for the month of September. I am pleased to announce that our attendance for the first 23 days of school was 94%, third highest in the district. While the goal is for our attendance to be above 95%, we recognize that there have been more absences due to the smoky air conditions and students being out due to illness. We appreciate you bringing your child(ren) to school on time! |

Bake Sale Fundraiser- October 25thDear YG students and families, My name is Ari Lester, and I am an 8th grade Japanese Immersion student at Kelly Middle School. I am also a part of Kelly’s student government. In student government, my job is to plan Japanese Immersion events. I am happy to announce that there is going to be a bake sale fundraiser in front of YG and Kelly on Tuesday October 25th. This will take place in front of YG from 2:35 PM – 3:15 PM and in the breezeway between the Kelly entrance and science wing from 3:25 PM – 3:45 PM. Parents, families, and students are welcome. The desserts will be low-priced and delicious. Students may bring money with them to school and pick something up on the way out, or parents/students/families can come after school ends to get a tasty treat. And even better, 100% of the money is going to an upcoming Japanese Immersion Event, Aki Matsuri! Aki Matsuri, or Fall Festival in English, is a Japanese traditional celebration of the season and harvest. It will be on November 3rd and will be free (there might be a raffle or food that may cost money, but the games and activities are free). It will be open to students and families from any Kelly program (not just Japanese Immersion) and all of YG! Teachers are welcome too! The event will include carnival games, Japanese games, and Japanese activities! There will be a later email with all the Aki Matsuri details. Please come to the bake sale to support the event! Thanks, Ari and the rest of the event planning group |
Health Screening- Friday, October 28th*Dental screening offered for all students* *Vision screening offered for K through 3rd* Our vision screening this year will be Friday October 28th during the school day for kindergarten through third grade. This vision screening will be done by a “Spot Test” with the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation volunteers and does NOT take the place of a thorough eye examination by an eye health specialist, as serious or eye health problems can be missed. If the results of the vision screening indicate your student needs a thorough eye exam, you will be notified of results after we receive them, generally 2-4 weeks after the screening date. The volunteers are required to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Our dental screening is offered for all students. Students of Parents and Guardians who chose to return the Authorization for Dental hygiene Services can receive a fluoride varnish treatment, which helps prevent cavities. These services are provided by the Community Health Centers of Lane County dental hygiene providers. Please let us know if you do not wish your child to participate.
